This is a great find! As an intrepreter for a living history homestead museum built in the 1880’s,I found this book opens a window into the creative lives of women of that time period and will be very useful to expand my own skills which I can share with the guests who visit. I am currently using some of the patterns to create garments for my grandchildren who participate with me. It is extraordinary book.

This vintage needlework encyclopedia is being republished by Interweave Press. The title says “Needlework” and this includes practical handsewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet and much more.

Knitters will find this volume especially appealing for the great variety of gloves, hoods, baby booties and socks and stockings. Some of the models could be useful for historical recreation. Crocheters will find bedspreads, jackets and wraps.

Those who sew will find the practical handsewing section valuable for monograms, appliqué, buttonholes, piping, hems and a number of types of buttons made of cloth.

This is the best volume so far for my interests (knitting) and the monogram section is also of great value for many applications.
